is it normal for a kitten with eyes open to still have their umbilical? i thought it fell off a few days after birth
Typically they lose their umbilical cord between 4 and 10 days old. I have previously had a kitten take some 16 days to lose theirs.
In Rutabaga’s case, he had an infection around the base of his umbilical cord which has since resolved but there’s a great big scab there and I don’t want to pick at it. When that finally lifts on its own the umbilical cord will fall off with it.

Heard a guy do a pirate song once and yell out jokes like this to the audience during the bridge. The last one:
Singer: “What’s a pirate’s favorite crime?” The audience, primed by now: “Arr-son!” Singer stops playing, stares at us all reproachfully, says: “Piracy.”
